Legacy Comics?
I found out that there are comics based on Legacy but I can't find any decent info on them. Help?

What are they called? How many pages/volumes are there? Who is the author/artist?
Bringing Order into your Chaosokami_hu on January 5th, 2011 07:01 pm (UTC)
They're called Ghost in the machine and Betrayal.

Ghost in the machine is six chapters. I have it and I've taken a quick look, and it seems to be about Alan's son and his rather fucked up mind. o_o If I'm deciphering the code correctly, the writers are Landry Walker and Eric Jones, and the artist for the first two chapters is Louie De Martinis. The rest is by Michael Soyket & GURU eFX.

Betrayal happens shortly before CLU's takeover, it has Flynn and Tron and the gridbugs. ^^ I have the first chapter, written by Jai Nitz, penciled by Andie Tong and colored by Pete Pantazis. It looks decent enough perfectly fine for me. =3

Available on certain sites that should not be mentioned, if you know what I mean.

As well as the previously mentioned Ghost in the Machine and Betrayal (I've only read the latter but it's absolutely fantastic) there's also comic novelizations of both the movies... I've only read the first issue of the 1982 Tron novelization but it's great and very stylish. :D Not sure if they've been serialized into book format yet but both of them were in comic stores recently.

Ah, I see. Thank you!

I'm asking because I saw sample art of the Betrayal comic (I think?) and it was just so gorgeous and awesome, even if Clu's chin was kinda scary.

Oooo...I didn't know about Ghost in the Machine...gotta check that out.

The art in Betrayal is awesome...the characters actually bear a resemblance to the actors, though it varies from "why yes, that's Bruce Boxleitner!" to "wow, Jeff Bridges' chin does NOT look like that."

I was out last night and looked at the comic adaptation of the first movie. I didn't like it. Every character looked like Generic Action Hero Comic Man! Alan looked like Clark Kent. But, that's just like, my opinion, man.

Yeah, the art is kinda lame in the original movie adaptation. They did add some neat ideas to the plot by way of the narrator, though, and there's only two issues, so I got it anyway. XD
X-Ray Comics: Tron2.0xray_studios on January 5th, 2011 10:56 pm (UTC)
Tron: Ghost in the Machine followed the events of Tron 2.0, and took place in an in-story false reality. The unofficial tagline for the comic was Flynn's quote: "This isn't happening it only thinks it's happening".

Spoilers follow:

The gist is that a program that thinks it's a User (made from a backup copy of a User) is part of an experiment to create a program that can be transitioned from the digital reality to our own world. That is to say, uplifted to live amongst the Gods. The experiment is a failure.

This was written before Tron: Legacy, and follows a different set of characters. But as the writer I would say this: There is no reason to consider this story non-canonical. It takes place on a separate system operating under an entirely different set of rules. There are no actual Users identified and nothing I am aware of that contradicts the new film. This requires a retcon of the 2.0 game to have transpired as a false reality as well, but that was one of the points of the comic in the first place. To call question to the previous reality and make both the game and the comic fit into any new material that might surface, rather than lock the future of Tron in what definitive direction. I didn't feel that anyone other than Lisberger should have that right.

Of course, everyone is free to take and leave what they want from these different works of fiction. But from my perspective, the 2.0 and Ghost in the Material is canon. It simply takes place on an entirely different computer in a completely artificial reality.

There's both parts of Tron: Betrayal, in .cbr files. You'll have to either download a comic reading program (I use Comical, but I've heard CDisplay is also good.) or, after you download the files, change the extension from .cbr to .rar and then just uncompress it. You'll have a folder with all the images in it.

These were scanned from the individual issues, not the paperback, which includes an extra prologue (about 20 pages) and some cool development artwork in the back. If you like it, please do make an effort to go out and buy the paperback. ♥

I have both. Ghost in the Machine is based on the computer game Tron 2.0, which was pretty much an official sequel to Tron, OK'd by Disney. Tron 2.0 has an AMAZING storyline. Disney wanted to gauge the success of Tron 2.0, and it got stellar reviews, but not enough sales, to see if they should make a sequel movie. Kinda glad they waited though otherwise Clu would probably not have looked that good and the effects would have been pre-Avatar (considering Legacy used the second generation of Avatar 3D filming equipment).

Anyway, you guessed it, they took about half of the story of Tron 2.0 and turned it into Legacy. I'm fine with that! So Ghost in the Machine is a sequel about Jet, Alan Bradley's son, who also got sucked into the computer and had to save his aging father... LOL.

Betrayal is the prequel comic to legacy. You can find both on Amazon!
