Not official yet, but...
We recently posted that Harry Knowles at Ain't It Cool News reported a sequel to TRON: LEGACY is close to being green lit -- now at TRON-SECTOR we are hearing that not only is it green lit, but there will be a teaser trailer for TRON 3 on the upcoming DVD and Blu-Ray releases of TRON & TRON: LEGACY. This is exciting news -- and we'll make sure and keep you posted as more details come forth (also posted on home/news page). - Jay

*bounces* Oh, I really hope it's true. I also hope that they get some good writers in and have more Tron in the next one. The franchise is, after all, named after him.

Does every Tron installment need to star Tron, though?

Granted, I'm biased because I loved Sam something fierce, but I thought 'Tron' had a lot of kickass screen time, while still allowing for the Flynn-centric storyline (Kevin, Sam and even Quorra) to keep the spotlight.

That being said, I can see Tron 3 as being a Tron vehicle, easily. I just thought the focus for Legacy should not have been him specifically.

I don't think that Tron 3 needs to be, or even should be, a Tron vehicle - I adore Sam and Quorra, and having them at the heart of the new movie makes perfect sense (and makes me happy). I just don't want to lose the heart of the original, either - having Tron in a supporting role suits me fine. I just want more than the five minutes of actual Tron that we got in the last one.

Also very much hoping this is true. I'm confident we're getting a Tron 3, but the sooner I see something from it, the better :')

I'm very curious about this teaser trailer, I mean more than lowly it'll be like the transformers teasers and show little or no narrative footage. But i could be wrong....I'd be curious to know if it's maybe something Kosinski shot during principle photography, seeing as how Disney wanted a new franchise from the off it wouldn't have been a bad idea to shoot it while they got all the actors and sets on hand. Maybe something meant to be an after credits Easter egg. I just hope it's something that hints at the narrative.

I have to admit as much as I liked the small bits of Tron that we got I think it's unlikely we'll see him as a feature character. At least sans-mask anyway, given how old Bruce is I'm not sure could make the digitized de-aging work as well while doing all the acrobatics they had Rinzler doing. Not to mention that if Disney's going to make this a Pirates of the Caribean type franchise they're going to sell it to the masses on the backs of Garett and Olivia.

I actually wouldn't be too concerned with the de-aging process. For Clu as an example, they kept his mask on the entire time, during whatever crazy stunts he had to do. So I'd imagine that with Tron, even if he had to do some stunts, for anything too extreme they'd have him don his mask/helmet and keep going with business as usual (similar to a more advanced version of how Sam's outfit morphs when he's in the disc battle). Granted, that diverges from what they did in the original film with him, but to be fair the costume designs have changed enough to make people accept that peacefully, I think.

Annd I know that's somewhat in line with what you're saying, but I happen to think Tron is an important enough face to, like Clu, be able to communicate a great deal from more casual screentime with just him interacting with Sam and Quorra (and Dillinger, if rumors are to be believed).

While that is FANTASTIC news I can't imagine seeing even a teaser trailer for Tron 3 on the DVD/Blu-Ray. Legacy's release is likely going to be in mid to late April. Unless of course it's something a la The Dark Knight's first "teaser" they are putting together.

Well, awesome. I'm happy. Look at it this way--if they RUIN the next one, who cares? They can't mar Legacy. If the next one is horrible, then in my mind, the story stops after Sam and Quorra exit the Grid. You know? So...bring it on. :) If Disney treats it right they'll have a gold mine.
